On the Anniversary of D-Day, Israel and Iran are about to start the next world war.

Today is of course the anniversary of D-Day where thousands of soldiers risked their lives in the invasion of Normandy. I would like to take a moment to thank all of those soldiers and remember those who we have lost.

As we look to the lessons of the past, we should all be learning from them but it looks as though Israel and Iran are about to start a new war. A newspaper quoted Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz as stating, "If Iran continues its nuclear arms program — we will attack it. The sanctions aren't effective. There will be no choice but to attack Iran to halt the Iranian nuclear program." Mofaz is hoping to replace the current Prime Minister. He also said that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad "will disappear before Israel does".1

Although I agree that Iran needs to be dealt with, I am anxious over Israel's remarks. As a large supporter of Israel, the United States would ultimately get drawn in to the conflict and have to expand our mission in the middle east to include Iran should conflict break out. I just don't know how able our military would be to handle the load due to our commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan. I completely trust in the capabilities of the Israeli Army and I hope that they would be able to handle the conflict without our military support, but I am still nervous about it.

I think that Mahmoud Amadinejad needs to be dealt with. His comments about "wiping Israel off the face of the Earth" and that "Israel is a stinking corpse" and "will be dealt with soon" are signs of a man who is intent on destroying another country. Amadinejad is a tyrant whose own people don't even trust him. I think that Israel should deal with that man before they engage in a war like situation where there could be potential casualties.
